About Zuri's Journey
Discover better, less stressful alternatives to traditional heartworm treatments.
An Alternative approach to heartworm care
Zuri is now about four years old. She has a great love of people and life. Her heartworm diagnosis was a distressing thing to say the least. Horrible stories of these parasites over the years and the loss of a very good and sweet, neighbors pet only fueled the fire to find a better way to get rid of heartworms. Much research was done on the topic, layman research. Not the in-depth kind you get with a PhD, or a full-on veterinarian degree. But the kind of information that common sense dictates.
The goal here is to share information and experiences that help dog owners make thoughtful choices about heartworm care. The focus is on comfort, safety, and long-term well-being.
Why this began, because we knew there had to be better ways to beat heartworms than proposed, "fast kill" method.

Zuri’s Story
A journey shaped by love, research, and common sense
Zuri’s story began in a shelter, on what was supposed to be her last day before euthanasia. She was diagnosed with heartworms, a serious and potentially deadly condition, and her future looked uncertain. Her time was running out, and Zuri needed a miracle. And her eyes reaching out beyond her kennel made an impression that her now pet parents could not forget.
When Zuri’s new family brought her home, they began an intensive journey to free her from heartworms. They researched alternatives to the traditional “fast kill” injections, learning about potential side effects and risks, and decided on a careful, monitored approach using Advantage Multi and doxycycline under veterinary guidance. And Zuris diet was made up of great food and various supplements help in overall health. Zuri does not state that this is the only way to get rid of heartworms, it’s just the one that worked for her.
The process was long and required patience, monitoring, and adjustments to her diet and supplements. Over 18 months, with blood tests every six months, Zuri slowly became heartworm-free. Her recovery was a testament to careful decision-making, compassion, and dedication.
Today, Zuri thrives — healthy, happy, and heartworm-free — inspiring others to consider all options and take the time to make the best decisions for their own pets. Zuri was never kenneled more than overnight, and only until she got used to her new home. She was walked and played with daily during her treatment and never had to be subdued or restrained due to activity limitations. Her journey is a reminder that, sometimes, time, patience, and thoughtful care can make all the difference.
